چکیده

Objective: To investigate the association between serum cystatin C and vascular endothelial function in patients with essential hypertension. Methods: A total of 434 cases (male 228, female 206) with an average age of (56.5±12.0) years were enrolled in the first hospital of Shanxi Medical University, including 343 patients with essential hypertension and 100 patients without hypertension, ranging from May 2014 to October 2015. All patients were divided into the FMD≥6.0% group (n=232) or FMD<6.0% group (n=202) according to flow mediated vasodilation (FMD) measured by ultrosound. The serum cystatin C, fasting blood glucose, serum lipid level, creatinine and urine micro albumin were measured in the morning after 12 hours fasting. The relationship between serum cystatin C and FMD was analyzed using the multiple linear regression analysis. Results: Serum cystatin C was significantly lower in the normal vascular endothelial function group than in the impaired vascular endothelial function group [(0.98±0.26) vs (1.05±0.23) mg/L, P<0.05]. Compared to the patients with grade 3 hypertension, FMD was significantly higher while serum cystatin C was significantly lower in the patients with grade 1 and 2 hypertension group (both P<0.05). FMD was negatively correlated with serum cystatin C, age and systolic blood pressure (r=-0.196, -0.347 and -0.205, all P<0.01). After adjusting for various confounders, muitiple linear regression analysis revealed that cystatin C was significantly associated with FMD (B=-2.310, P<0.01). Conclusion: Serum cystatin C was negatively correlated with vascular endothelial function in patients with essential hypertension.

Comparison of Serum Cystatin C and Creati-nine Levels to Evaluate Early Renal Function after Kidney Transplantation

Background: Accurate and rapid assessment of allograft function is essential in renal transplant recipients in order to detect allograft rejection and to monitor drug nephrotoxicity. We aimed to evaluate the usefulness of cystatin C as a marker of kidney allograft function in the early post-transplant period and to compare this value with that of conventional serum creatinine concentration. Met...

Quantitation of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor and Interleukin-6 in Different Stages of Breast Cancer

Background: Determination of the impact of angiogenesis on tumor development and progression is essential. This study aimed to determine the serum levels of Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Interleukin 6 (IL-6) in breast carcinoma, and to correlate them with tumor size, lymph node involvement, and cancer stage. Methods: Under aseptic precautions 5 ml of venous blood was collecte...

Comparative Assessment of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) and Cystatin C as Early Biomarkers for Early Detection of Renal Failure in Patients with Hypertension

Background: Hypertension is one the most common causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD). One of the major concerns in hypertensive patients is early detection of renal disorders. In the past, serum creatinine (Scr) concentration was used as a marker of kidney function, but it proffers a late reflection of reduced glomerular filtration rate. Cystatin C and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocal...

Assessment of Serum Cystatin C Levels in Women with Breast Cancer Compared to the Control Group

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in Iranian women, detected in 70% of cases when the disease has reached an advanced stage. The discovery of new diagnostic biomarkers is essential for the early detection of the disease. Cystatin C is a member of the cystatin family and a non-glycosylated, cysteine protease inhibitor that is also used as a functional marker of the ...

بررسی مقایسه‌ای ارزش تشخیصی سیستاتین C و کراتینین سرمی در ارزیابی عملکرد کلیه پیوندی در بیماران گیرنده کلیه در دوران اولیه پس از پیوند

Background &Aim: Early detection of decreasing glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is critical to prevent graft rejection in post-transplantation period. Serum creatinine has several drawbacks as a marker of GFR, so serum cystatin C has been proposed as an alternative GFR marker. Thus, we prospectively evaluated the diagnostic value of cystatin C measurements compared with serum creatinine in t...
